District Flues and Stoves runs full chimney CCTV camera surveys across Norfolk and Suffolk, lowering a high-resolution camera down your flue so we can show you exactly what's going on inside. You watch the footage live on a monitor with us.
What is a chimney CCTV survey?
A CCTV survey uses a small camera on a flexible rod, lowered down the chimney from the top, to inspect the inside of the flue. The footage shows every brick, every joint and any obstruction. It's the only way to see what's really happening inside a flue without taking it apart.
What do you look for during a survey?
Typical things we find on a CCTV inspection:
- Cracks in the mortar joints — caused by heat expansion over years of use. Cracks can let smoke and carbon monoxide leak into upstairs rooms.
- Soot and creosote build-up — restricting the draw and creating a chimney-fire risk.
- Loose or fallen bricks — a real safety hazard if they drop while a fire is lit.
- Bird nests, debris and blockages — surprisingly common, especially in chimneys that haven't been used for a few years.
- Failed or missing flue liners — old liners that have collapsed or corroded through.
When should I have a CCTV survey done?
A CCTV survey is worth doing before installing a new stove into an existing chimney, after a chimney fire, when smoke is leaking into upstairs rooms, when you've bought a property and don't know the history of the chimney, or if you're getting a poor draw from a working fire.
How does a CCTV survey work in practice?
You'll watch the inspection live on a monitor at ground level while our installer narrates what they're seeing. If anything needs fixing, we'll tell you on the spot and quote it separately — no sales pressure.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a chimney CCTV survey cost?
We quote per job. A standalone CCTV survey is more cost-effective when combined with a chimney sweep on the same visit — give us a call for current pricing.
Will I get a copy of the footage?
Yes, on request. Useful for insurance claims, conveyancing on a property sale, or as a record before installing a new appliance.
How long does a survey take?
Around 30–45 minutes for a single flue, longer for properties with multiple chimneys.
