District Flues and Stoves designs and builds custom fireplaces across Norfolk and Suffolk, from traditional inglenook restorations to contemporary stove installations with hearth, beam and flue. Every job is fully HETAS-compliant.
What does a bespoke fireplace job involve?
A bespoke fireplace is built around the room and the stove, not pulled off a shelf. We survey the space, agree the design with you, source the hearth, surround and stove from the brands we stock, and install the whole thing including any flue or chimney work. You get a single point of contact from quote to completion.
How do we approach a fireplace build?
There are five stages to a typical fireplace project.
1. Free survey
We visit the property, measure up, check the chimney (or work out where a twin-wall flue would run), and talk through what you're trying to achieve. Bring photos, dimensions and a sense of style — a printed catalogue from the showroom helps.
2. Design and quote
A fixed quote covering the stove, hearth, surround, flue work, building works and certification. Nothing added later.
3. Stove and materials selection
Choose from the brands in stock — ACR, Castle, Focus Fireplaces, Hunter, MI Fires, Parkray, Pevex, Portway and Termatech. See the brands page for the full list, or come into the showroom to see examples in person.
4. Installation
A typical fireplace install runs over one to three days, depending on the complexity of any building works and flue runs. We protect the room during the work and clear up before we leave.
5. Certification and handover
We issue a HETAS Certificate of Compliance, notify Building Control, and walk you through how to operate and maintain the stove safely.
Frequently asked questions
Do you handle the building work as well as the stove?
Yes. We do the hearth, surround, opening-up, plastering-back, beam fitting and flue work in-house, so you have one contractor for the whole job.
Can you install into a period property?
Yes — much of our work across Norfolk and Suffolk is in period cottages, farmhouses and listed buildings. Period properties usually need a CCTV survey and often a flue liner. We'll flag any conservation or listed-building considerations on the survey.
What if my room doesn't have a chimney?
We fit a twin-wall stainless steel insulated flue from the back of the stove out through an external wall and up the outside. See the flue lining and installation page for the detail.
