More information I understand

District Flues and Stoves installs stainless steel flue liners and twin-wall insulated flue systems across Norfolk and Suffolk. As a HETAS-registered installer, every flue we fit meets current building regulations and is certified on completion.

What is flue lining?

A flue liner is a flexible stainless steel pipe that runs the full length of your existing chimney, from the appliance up to the pot. It seals the route smoke takes out of your home, protects the chimney brickwork from corrosive combustion gases, and dramatically improves draw and efficiency.

When do I need a flue liner?

A flue liner is typically needed when you're installing a wood-burner or multi-fuel stove into an existing chimney, when the existing chimney is unlined or the lining is degraded, when a CCTV survey shows cracks or gaps, or when the chimney is leaking smoke into rooms upstairs. We use Multiflex stainless steel liners — the most cost-effective way to make an older chimney safe and efficient.

What can a Multiflex liner be used with?

Multiflex liners are suitable for:

  • Wood-burning stoves
  • Multi-fuel stoves
  • Gas appliances
  • Oil-fired appliances
  • Coal-burning appliances

The liner is lowered down from the top of the chimney and connected to the appliance with an airtight seal. That seal means smoke leaves your stove safely no matter what state the surrounding chimney is in.

What about homes without a chimney?

If your property has no chimney, a twin-wall stainless steel insulated flue creates one. The flue runs from the back of the stove, through the external wall, then rises up the outside of the building. Being twin-walled, the outer skin stays cool to the touch even when the stove is at full working temperature.

Why fit twin-wall instead of building a chimney?

  • Cheaper than building a masonry chimney
  • Quicker — usually a single-day install
  • Cleaner — no brick dust through the house
  • Lower maintenance
  • Safer — purpose-engineered for solid-fuel use

Why does HETAS registration matter for flue work?

HETAS is the national approval body for solid-fuel heating installers in the UK. As a HETAS-registered installer, District Flues and Stoves uses only tested, approved flue components and self-certifies the work to your local Building Control — saving you the cost and paperwork of a separate Building Notice.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a flue lining job take?

Most chimney relines on a domestic property are completed in a single day. Twin-wall flue installs through an external wall usually take one or two days depending on access and the height of the run.

Will a new flue liner improve how my fire burns?

Yes. A properly sized liner gives a much stronger, cleaner draw, so the fire lights more easily, burns hotter, and you'll use less wood for the same heat output.

Can you reline a chimney with a twist or offset?

Yes — flexible Multiflex liners are designed to follow bends in an older chimney. We assess this on the free survey before quoting.
